After completing her schooling in India, she earned a Master’s degree from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in 1978. Her professional background spans journalism and development consultancy. She held positions at the World Bank in Washington, DC, and worked with the Ashoka Society. In 1989, she relocated to London and became the foreign correspondent for New Delhi Television (NDTV). Upon her return to the United States in 1996, she pursued a freelance journalism career.
