About this Video
Dr. Srijan Sandip Mandal is a historian and legal scholar specializing in the constitutional history of India, particularly the right to freedom of speech and expression. He earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of Hyderabad, where his thesis examined how the Indian Constitution preserved colonial-era restrictions on speech. In this podcast episode, Dr. Mandal explores the historical context of free speech in India, analyzing its evolution before, during, and after the Constitution's drafting. He discusses how colonial laws influenced constitutional provisions, leading to enduring constraints on expression, and examines the implications for academic freedom and democratic discourse in contemporary India. *** *Credits* • Research Head: Anirban Bhattacharya • Camera Operator / Mixing and Mastering / Intro — @Mahansangeet: https://www.instagram.com/hi_mahan/ • Intro Animation — @RevantTalekar: https://www.instagram.com/revanttalekar/ • Camera Operator / Editing / Guest Logistics Coordinator — @VybhavSharma : https://www.instagram.com/vybhavsharma/ • Production Assistant — Haran Shetty #Constitution #Ambedkar #FreedomofSpeech
